ABOUT US
Youth Environmental Forum (YEF) was
founded in 1994 by a handful of concerned and motivated
activists who wanted to work for the safeguard of
environment. Their vision was based on following three key
concepts;
a vision that extends loving kindness to all human beings
and to the Mother Earth
a vision that protects and preserves the invaluable natural
resources for the benefit of one and all a vision that
promotes progress and wellbeing as one nation with unity in
diversity, sans all differences
YEF was registered as a
non-governmental organization at the Department of Social
Services in 2001. It was further registered with the Central
Environmental Authority in 2003 as an environmental
organization.
Activities of YEF were mainly based on environmental
conservation and sustainable development, including
sustainable agriculture, but later expanded in to areas such
as youth
entrepreneurship development, organic agriculture. With the
devastating tsunami of December 2004 YEF’s activities were
expanded in to the area of
disaster management and
rehabilitation.
Although YEF’s activities were confined to Matara District
during the early years, it has now expanded its activities
to the Southern Province comprising of three districts,
namely Matara, Galle and Hambantota.
